How is Group Counseling Helpful?

You discover that you are not alone.

When in group therapy, the other members share their experiences and show that you aren’t alone. By talking with peers who are going through the same things, you may experience quicker and longer-lasting results. Group therapy is a place of safety, caring, understanding, and validation..

You gain problem solving skills.

You can hear what others have tried and what worked for them or what didn’t. You are able to offer the other members insights based on your own experiences as well as receive feedback on issues you are struggling with.

You develop awareness.

Group members may bring up issues that strike a chord with you. You might not even have been aware of those issues yourself or how to bring them up. This may enable you to explore your issues at a deeper level.

You give and receive feedback.

We often worry about what others think of us or how we come across in social interactions. In group therapy, you are given feedback in a respectful, gentle way, with the assistance of a therapist. You're able to hear, and then use these ideas to help you have more fulfilling interpersonal relationships.
